R&D Priorities
A cornerstone of GFOI's strategy lies in the continuous refinement and updating of research priorities. These priorities guide the organisation of expert meetings, the assessment of the progress of new methods or products towards operationality, provide direct R&D support to countries and advocate for the funding of key research needs. The current list of GFOI R&D priorities was reviewed during the 2023 GFOI Plenary, through discussions with researchers, practitioners and country experts. They encompass:
Degradation and Regrowth
Biomass and EF estimation
Deforestation Alerts (Near Real Time Monitoring of Deforestation)
Land Use and GHG Inventories
Monitoring of Tropical Wetland Ecosystems
Uncertainty Analysis
